Eh

I talk so much about Hope and her struggles that my friends here in North Carolina follow her progress. Sitting with A in the library and trying to write papers that seem so trivial, A keeps telling me about what other people have written about Hope. She follows the blogs, too. I realize then, that I have yet to write anything. I suppose it stems from my worry that...eh, nevermind.

Mason at school

Chugga, chugga

So maybe this has been my problem. Wandering through texts of previously unknown content, I have been tested repeatedly and found, upon self-reflection, to be inadequate. On the drive to teach my final class today, I listened to an old mixed cd, one that I can only assume I made in Omaha. A consistent theme ran through the songs, badass. Perhaps it was the Midwest, mustang-driving persona I inhabited for a short time, but it was there. I must have been very sure of myself. I haven’t listened to a cd in the car in ages and I mistakenly turned it up after sliding the cd in, thinking that the volume was low. Static, then….blaring Rob Zombie. Wow, what must the neighbors have thought? They don’t seem the Zombie type.

Back from Savannah

I had a successful conference trip to Savannah this weekend. I hate that I missed out on a few days of the conference, but family is just as important as work. Besides, I did network and chair a conference session. Tina and her friend Aleksa met us in Savannah and that was interesting. I think Tina did some networking too. We got to go to a low country boil and meet some fantastic people. Now I'm back home and freaking out over the massive amount of work I have to do. Which is, of course, why I'm on my blog instead of working...

Pumpkin Farm fun

We made our way over to Ganyard Farms last weekend and had a blast. This was our third year visiting that place with our friends. The first year the only kiddo was Scarlett, but this year we had Scarlett, Mason, Carson, Elise, Connor, and two baby bumps. All of these kids have been born since the first trip. Enjoy the pictures!

harharhar

Yum?

I've talked about this video to so many people, I thought I'd just post it on the ol' blog. Warning...if you can't handle an eight year old breast feeding...look away. Oh, Before you all freak out...that's a big NO for me. Mason will not be running along side of me looking for a little nip :)

Daddy and Daughter

During the last few months of the pregnancy we tried to do as many activities as possible with Scarlett. We knew we were going to be giving so much attention to the baby that she might feel neglected. I'm not sure that the plan worked to make her feel better, but it was fun.

These are pictures from one of those Lowes projects that they have on Saturday mornings. Scarlett wasn't old enough to attend at the store, so a nice employee gave us the project to do at home. She built a planter with a see through front. Supercool! Thanks Lowes.

Cooking at school

We just received a journal entry from Scarlett's school on their Creative Curriculum website. It talks about making a pumpkin pie and then had this cute picture of the kids. One of the kids is a notorious nose picker...no pie for me, thanks.

Happy Birthday & Congratulations

Mason is 3 months old today! He slept from 9pm to 6am last night, yippee!

Scarlett got up at 3am and went potty then went back to bed...all on her own. Fantastic! I heard her in the bathroom and went to check on her. She said, "I'm just going potty." I left and she did her thing then went back to bed. She's the coolest...Oh, especially now that Mr. Walter showed her the cool kid fist bump and Mr. Ryan showed her to "slip me some skin."

In other news, congratulations John and Esther. We can't wait to see the new cousin.

Well

I don't blog much because I don't have time. Really I don't have anything to talk about. I don't take enough pictures to appease the family and in my work time, I'm always reading things you probably don't care about. Then I have my little celebrity fetish. I had to quit reading actual news because I kept reading stories that made me cry. So now I wonder...

-How did Jessica Simpson ever get a recording contract? Did they think she would get better? Her country album is terrible. Have you seen the footage of her singing live. YIKES! I think someone told her to sing with a southern drawl and it would all be ok. They lied.

-Along the same lines...is Tony Romo tone deaf?

-Do Ellen and Portia share clothes? I saw video clips from their wedding. It really was beautiful. I wonder if they will have babies.

-Can Sarah Palin work on her accent? I really hate it. Makes me feel like I'm back in Omaha. If they win the election, argh, please let her adopt a more appealing tone.

-Why does Mason have less hair than Scarlett? I really thought he would be the ultimate ape child. We know he has my skin tone, as opposed to Will's tan, perhaps he also has my hair...or my Dad's. I guess we know what he will look like when he's 40.

-Why does the university make students cry? A student arrived late to class last night and she was so stressed out she was crying. I told her to relax and we could work out whatever is going on. She either pulled a fast one or colleges need to dispense anti-anxiety drugs with textbooks. Either way, I don't want to be the cause of a nervous breakdown...especially in elementary education.

-When can we talk to Hope? The idea of taking medication to level out mood is depressing, I know, but sometimes it's necessary. OR Tom Cruise needs to pay a visit.

-Why isn't there a place to change a diaper in Peabody? I have no place to pump (because I share an office and I don't think my mates would appreciate it) and no place to change a poop.

-What the hell is Hole in the Wall? Really? Someone watches this? Oh wait, maybe I should call my Mom before I write more...

eh, time to read

Um, Wow...

I just saw this and thought I would share. It's kind of funny and very scary. I can't imagine what it would feel like to have your kid say, "It's fun to do bad things." I'm sure the grandmother wants to do more than just "whip his behind."

Making Pizza

The Ladies made some yummy pizza after a shopping trip to Trader Joe's.

Welcome Carson Thomas!

Our friends Brian and Hilary had a baby boy this morning. The little man was scheduled for a c-section on Thursday...he liked the breech position. To everyone's surprise, Hilary's water broke last night and Carson arrive around 2am...on the happy couple's anniversary.

Congratulations on a healthy baby boy!

Fun at the beach

We just returned from a trip to visit Will's Dad and family at the beach. Scarlett had a GREAT time. She loved swimming in the pool and chopping up my sand castle.

And yes, I am posting pics of me at 9 months in a bikini....hahaha!

Book Chapter, written by moi!

Got some great news today. I submitted some writing for a book chapter last summer and I just received confirmation that I am included. The title is Trajectories: The Education and Social Mobility of Education Scholars from the Poor and Working Class.

It should be available early next year. Now I need to come up with a title for my chapter...

As Scarlett says, "Go Mommy go!"

Happy Mother's Day!

To all the momses...

Today was also my graduation day! Yay for me. I asked Will how big I looked walking across the stage. "Big," he said with a grimace, "But obviously pregnant." As I walked across I could hear Scarlett cheering, "Go Mommy, Go Mommy, Go Mommy." It was great.

Like a beach ball in a trash bag...
